BYD and Corvus partner on marine batteries
BYD Energy Storage and Corvus Energy AS have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development of next-generation battery systems for the maritime industry.
The agreement brings together BYD Energy Storage’s large-scale production and leadership in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with Corvus Energy’s expertise in marine energy storage systems (ESS). The two companies will work together to speed up product development, expand their global market presence, and deliver safer and more efficient battery solutions for shipping.
The partnership targets the growing demand for clean and reliable energy systems as the maritime sector moves toward decarbonisation. By combining their technical strengths, the companies aim to introduce new products faster and support shipowners in reducing emissions.
“This MoU is an important step in strengthening our position as a market leader in marine battery systems,” said Ole Jacob Irgens, Head of EMEA and Asia at Corvus Energy. “BYD’s scale and LFP innovation, combined with our maritime experience and installed base, will help us bring new solutions to customers more quickly.”
Under the agreement, the companies will also coordinate global market activities to drive the adoption of marine energy storage systems worldwide.
Corvus Energy will act as the system integration and route-to-market partner. The company will leverage its experience in marine installations and its global customer network to support project deployment and commercial growth.
The collaboration aims to support the shipping industry’s transition toward cleaner operations while improving safety, performance, and supply chain reliability.
