Ukraine and a recent flurry of diplomatic activity to end the war in that country three and a half years after a Russian invasion was the main topic addressed on Sunday by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his weekly review that is posted on social media.
He also took direct “aim” at domestic and often high-profile critics of his government position regarding the Ukraine-Russia war, such as lesser parties on the right and left of the political spectrum, stressing:
“They’re the same ones, who with their stance, ask that we forget the trauma of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus (in 1974),” he wrote.
“We are doing what our position at the core of the European Union and our major geopolitical choices dictate. We have worked hard to earn this position. Our country paid dearly for its European isolation during the economic crisis years,” he stressed, adding: “We will never again allow Greece to be marginalized. We supported Ukraine from the very beginning. We supported the defender against the aggressor in an unconcealed invasion and flagrant violation of a country’s sovereignty. We stand with Europe.
