“We want to measure ourselves against those who have achieved the best performance in every field,” Greek Finance Minister and acting President of the Eurogroup Kyriakos Pierrakakis said in a social media post.

Speaking ahead of his appearance at a Grant Thornton Greece event in Heraklion on Thursday, Pierrakakis said that a new model of progress is taking shape in Crete, where universities and research centers, major infrastructure projects, public investment and private initiatives are combining to form what he described as an ecosystem demonstrating that the regions can serve as a driver of national strength.

The Greek finance minister added that it was a duty to elevate the power of Greece in the fields of economy, diplomacy, defense and at sea. “It is our responsibility and our duty,” Pierrakakis noted in his post. “In the face of new geopolitical realignments and international competition, Greece has chosen and is serving the role of a reliable partner. We engage with everyone on equal terms, seeking convergence while not allowing the slightest questioning of our national rights.”
