PSA Italy expands Stuttgart Express rail service

PSA Italy has expanded its Stuttgart Express rail service, strengthening the link between the PSA Genova Pra’ deepsea terminal and Kornwestheim in southern Germany.

Launched in May 2023, the service now increases its frequency from two to three trips per week. With a transit time of less than 48 hours, the Stuttgart Express offers shippers a fast and reliable alternative to road transport. Trains of up to 500 meters carry containers with lower costs and higher efficiency compared to trucking.

PSA Italy manages bookings, documentation, and customs procedures for the service. The company also provides first and last mile connections in Stuttgart, along with trucking options within Genoa between the Pra’ terminal and the Old Port.

The Stuttgart Express complements PSA Italy’s Southern Express, which links Genova and Basel three times per week. Together, these services support the shift from road to rail across the Transalpine corridor.

According to Ecotransit World, the Stuttgart Express cuts carbon emissions by 83% and energy use by 49% compared to trucking. “The enhanced Stuttgart Express creates more opportunities for shippers to reduce emissions in a cost-effective way,” said Roberto Ferrari, Managing Director of PSA Italy.
