Kuehne+Nagel expands air cargo operations in Frankfurt
Kuehne+Nagel has signed a lease agreement with Fraport AG for a new 7,600 sqm air cargo facility at Frankfurt Airport’s CargoCity South.
The new facility marks a strategic investment in the company’s global air logistics network. It aims to strengthen air cargo connectivity across key international trade lanes. Completion and handover are scheduled for end-2028.
Frankfurt Airport is one of the world’s major air cargo hubs. The new site will offer direct airside access within the secure airport zone. It will support faster cargo movements between terminals and aircraft parking areas. The facility will also reduce aircraft turnaround times and improve transfer efficiency.
The layout includes 16 gates and truck docks. This supports scalable operations and greater flexibility to meet changing customer demand.
The building will meet Kuehne+Nagel’s sustainability standards. It has received DGNB Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council. The design includes LED lighting, heat pumps, EV charging stations, smart metering, and a large rooftop photovoltaic system to generate renewable energy.
Once operational, Kuehne+Nagel will expand its total footprint in CargoCity South to more than 20,000 sqm. The move reinforces Frankfurt’s role as a key global gateway in the company’s air cargo network.
Martin Schaefer, SVP Air Logistics Germany at Kuehne+Nagel, said the new facility will provide the capacity and connectivity needed to support growth and serve fast-growing sectors such as healthcare, semiconductors, high tech, and cloud infrastructure.
