Maersk has announced an increase in the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo moving from China and Hong Kong to Kenya. These new rates will take effect on March 2, 2026. According to the company, the adjustment is necessary to maintain the quality of its global services.

The revised tariff applies to both dry and reefer containers. Specifically, the surcharge for all 20-foot containers is now USD 500. Additionally, the fee for all 40-foot dry, 40-foot reefer, and 45-foot high dry containers has risen to USD 800. Maersk will apply these charges on a per-container basis until further notice.

The application of the surcharge depends on the specific booking type. For non-spot bookings, the rate is based on the Price Calculation Date. In non-FMC regions, this date refers to the scheduled departure of the first water leg. However, for FMC-regulated trades, the date is determined by the last container gate-in.

Meanwhile, spot bookings follow a different calculation method. These rates are retrieved based on the estimated time of departure for the first vessel at the time of confirmation.

This update follows a series of rate adjustments aimed at managing seasonal demand. Consequently, shippers moving goods from the Far East to East Africa should prepare for these increased costs in March. Therefore, the new pricing structure ensures the carrier can continue to provide reliable logistics solutions across its network.
