C.H. Robinson powers agentic supply chain AI

C.H. Robinson has disclosed for the first time the scale of the proprietary data underpinning its artificial intelligence platform, revealing a dataset of more than 100 trillion data points accumulated across decades of global logistics operations.

The company describes this as the largest and richest real-world logistics dataset in the industry, growing continuously with every shipment processed across its network of 75,000 customers and 37 million annual shipments.

The dataset powers what C.H. Robinson terms its Lean AI operating system, an in-house platform that embeds intelligence directly into core logistics workflows including pricing, planning, order management, appointment scheduling, capacity allocation, routing, tracking, documentation and invoicing.

Hundreds of AI agents operate within this system, autonomously executing millions of real-world shipping tasks and coordinated through the company’s Always-on Logistics Planner, which orchestrates activity across the full shipment lifecycle.

Chief Technology Officer Mike Neill argued that the complexity of logistics and global supply chains makes proprietary operational data a decisive competitive factor, distinguishing genuine supply chain AI from general-purpose tools.

He contended that without access to large volumes of real-world shipping data, AI systems cannot reason accurately or reflect the specific characteristics of individual customer supply chains.

Measured outcomes from the platform support this assertion. Analysis of truckload shipments across C.H. Robinson’s network found that AI-integrated orders and appointments workflows delivered up to 23% faster order-to-market speed and up to 35% improvement in on-time pickup rates.

The latter improvement reduces downstream disruption, lowers penalty costs associated with missed time windows and enables more reliable delivery estimates and inventory planning.
