Yang Ming issues Middle East GS2 service deviation and operational update

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has announced operational adjustments for its GS2 service in response to the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.

The company said recent developments, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters, have created significant safety risks following multiple attacks on commercial vessels.

As a precautionary measure, Yang Ming confirmed that its upcoming GS2 service vessels will deviate from their original routes and remain on standby near the Middle East region, instead of proceeding with planned port calls or discharging cargo at Indian ports.

The carrier stated that it is closely monitoring security conditions and will determine the appropriate timing to resume normal operations once it is safe to do so.

Upon improvement of the situation and confirmation of port safety, the vessels are expected to proceed directly to available Middle Eastern ports to complete cargo discharge operations. Further details regarding specific arrangements will be communicated as conditions evolve.

Yang Ming also advised that additional costs may arise as a result of these emergency measures. These may include extra freight, terminal handling charges, transshipment costs and other related expenses.

Such costs will be borne by cargo interests in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable bill of lading.

The company said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary, while prioritizing the safety of vessels, crew and cargo.
