Gebrüder Weiss opens €100m logistics and IT hub in Austria
Gebrüder Weiss has opened a new Logistics and IT Center in Wolfurt, Austria, marking one of the largest investments in the company’s history.
The €100 million facility aims to improve supply chain efficiency through automation, digitalisation and integrated operations. The site was officially inaugurated on April 24 with representatives from business and government.
“The Logistics and IT Center represents a major step forward for our organisation,” said Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss. “We are creating infrastructure designed for long-term growth and more transparent supply chains.”
The new center covers around 31,000 square metres. It combines logistics, IT and office functions in a vertically integrated design to maximise space efficiency.
At the core of the facility is a 34-metre-high automated warehouse with capacity for 68,000 pallets. The system can store up to 160 pallets and retrieve up to 200 pallets per hour. It uses autonomous vehicles, digital control systems and advanced intralogistics technology.
The site also includes a manual warehouse and office space for around 400 employees. It houses the company’s central IT unit alongside logistics operations, enabling faster coordination and process optimisation.
The location offers direct access to the Wolfurt cargo terminal, linking road and rail transport. Its position near Austria’s borders with Switzerland, Germany and Liechtenstein strengthens its role as a regional logistics hub.

“This investment strengthens Vorarlberg as a business location,” said Markus Wallner, Governor of Vorarlberg. “Efficient logistics are essential for maintaining competitiveness in global markets.”
Sustainability was a key focus in the project. The facility uses low-carbon concrete, reducing emissions by around 35% compared to traditional materials. It also features a 1.5 MW photovoltaic system, green roofs and infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Gebrüder Weiss said the new center will serve as a model for future developments, with a similar automated facility already planned in Switzerland.
The company said the investment will support long-term growth while improving efficiency and transparency for customers across European supply chains.
