The International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) Manual is the bedrock of global Search and Rescue (SAR) coordination. As maritime activities evolve, driven by technological advancements, new regulations, and the expansion of offshore infrastructure, so too must the procedures guiding our response to emergencies at sea.

The 2025 Edition of the IAMSAR Manual, with amendments adopted by the IMO and ICAO, brings crucial operational changes. This isn’t just paperwork; it’s an essential shift that maritime companies, owners, and shipmasters must integrate into their safety systems now.

The most important date for compliance is January 1, 2026.

SOLAS Regulation V/21 mandates that all ships carry an up-to-date copy of IAMSAR Volume III (Mobile Facilities).

To comply, the new 2025 edition must be acquired and placed onboard the vessels (in hard copy format, as stipulated by MSC-MEPC.2/Circ. 2 for emergency use) before this date.
