Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Partners with Technip Energies

Exciting news from Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA)! They’ve just teamed up with Technip Energies, a heavyweight in the tech and engineering world. This collaboration is all about enhancing LDA’s FRESH initiative, which focuses on creating a ship-based facility for processing and storing low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen.
The vessel in question stretches 170 meters and boasts an extraordinary storage capacity of 45,000 cubic meters for ammonia. What’s really cool is its ability to transform that ammonia into hydrogen right on board using a cutting-edge cracking plant. While docked at port, it will receive regular supplies from ammonia carriers. The cracking process can produce up to 50,000 tonnes of high-purity hydrogen annually—think over 90% energy efficiency! Once produced, the hydrogen gets compressed and sent ashore to meet the needs of various industries and heavy transport sectors. Plus, this ship can easily move around based on where demand spikes.
Technip Energies will bring its advanced ammonia cracking technology into play here while LDA takes charge of designing the hull and managing operations for this innovative solution.
“partnering with Technip Energies is a game-changer for us,” said Mathieu Muzeau, managing Director of Transport & Logistics at LDA. “This step forward helps us create a floating terminal that produces low-carbon hydrogen efficiently while keeping greenhouse gas emissions super low.”
The Memorandum of Understanding was officially signed back in April 2025—an exciting start to what promises to be an impactful partnership between these two companies!
