WestJet Cargo Enhances Service Reach with New Capacity to Japan

WestJet Cargo is ramping up its trans-Pacific operations by introducing daily flights year-round from Calgary to Tokyo Narita International Airport. Utilizing the boeing 787 Dreamliner, each journey can carry up to 22 tons and 80 cubic meters of cargo, ensuring a steady and dependable link between North America and asia.

“Launching this daily Dreamliner service to Japan marks a important milestone for us,” shared Julius Mooney, WestJet Cargo’s Commercial Director. “This route not only facilitates swift transport of high-value goods for Canadian exporters but also enhances Western Canada’s position as a vital hub for trade with Asia.”

This new service bolsters robust trade relations. Japan is sending over various products like automotive parts, electronics, and high-tech machinery thru WestJet’s expanding network that spans Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Conversely, Canadian exports such as fresh produce, seafood, and other freight are now reaching japanese markets more quickly than ever.

You can easily book shipments on this route via WestJet Cargo’s digital partners—CargoAi, WebCargo, and Cargo.one—offering freight forwarders worldwide seamless access along with real-time management tools.

This cargo enhancement aligns perfectly with WestJet’s existing daily passenger flights to Tokyo while also expanding its codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines. This partnership ensures smooth connections to cities like Osaka and Nagoya while further establishing Calgary as an emerging player in global logistics.
