Hamilton LRT Project Moves Forward with New RFP from Ontario
CANADA: ontario is making strides in its Hamilton Light Rail Transit initiative by inviting four teams to pitch their plans for the Package 1 Civil & Utilities Work contract.
The contenders are:
- Hamilton Synergy Alliance (led by AtkinsRéalis Major Projects);
- Steel City Alliance (led by Dufferin Construction Co);
- Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture (led by Murphy infrastructure);
- Aecon Hamilton Transit LRT Partnership (led by Aecon Infrastructure Management).
The selected proposal will enter a collaborative phase with Metrolinx, the transport agency for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, to refine designs and establish a construction timeline.
“We’re on the verge of breaking ground on this vital transit project that will link countless residents in Hamilton to employment opportunities and housing,” stated Ontario’s Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria on May 21.”Our government is committed to executing North America’s most extensive transit expansion, aimed at alleviating congestion while ensuring job security for Ontarians amidst challenges like unfair tariffs from [US] President Trump.”
The provincial and federal governments are pouring up to C$3.4 billion into this LRT project, which spans a distance of approximately 14 kilometers from McMaster University to Eastgate Square. It will feature stops at key locations such as City Hall, Hamilton Stadium, and eastgate Square.
Ahead of this main phase, five preliminary projects have already been wrapped up successfully, with four more currently in progress.
