To reshape this narrative around manufacturing jobs, Evans suggests focusing on how these roles are evolving: “It’s not merely about producing goods; it involves utilizing AI, sustainability practices, robotics, and innovative design to shape our future.”

To attract Gen Z talent effectively, companies need to align job roles with their values—such as technology integration and meaningful work experiences. This method not only boosts employee morale but also cultivates an environment ripe for continuous improvement—something younger generations find appealing.

Another issue lies in traditional hiring methods that limit access to potential candidates. Evans argues that there’s an urgent need for manufacturers to collaborate more closely with high schools and community colleges by providing hands-on experiences through internships or STEM initiatives aimed at demystifying these career paths.

He envisions a future where the workforce will be heavily influenced by technology advancements: “The rise of smart systems will redefine many positions,” he asserts while stressing that human skills such as critical thinking will remain vital even amidst technological progress.
