Ocean Network Express Launches Innovative Ship Recycling Program

According to a recent announcement from Ocean network express (ONE), the company is taking critically important strides in its environmental initiatives by introducing a ship recycling policy and becoming a member of the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI). This move, revealed on may 29, underscores ONE’s dedication to ensuring that ships are decommissioned safely and sustainably once they reach the end of their service life.

The newly established ship recycling policy mandates that all vessels owned by ONE must be dismantled only at certified facilities known for adhering to international regulations and standards. By joining forces with the SRTI, ONE commits to transparency regarding its ship recycling practices, thereby bolstering efforts within the maritime sector to promote accountability and sustainability through voluntary data sharing among shipowners.

“Our new ship recycling policy, along with our involvement in SRTI, represents a significant advancement in our clean ship recycling efforts—one of the seven essential components of ONE’s Green Strategy,” stated Michimasa Noda, senior vice president for sustainability at ONE. “We are dedicated to upholding our responsibilities as a vessel owner while advocating for safe and environmentally friendly practices in ship recycling throughout the industry.”
