Ascend Airways Malaysia Takes Significant Steps in AOC Development
According to a recent announcement from Ascend Airways Malaysia, this emerging airline, part of the Avia Solutions Group—recognized as the largest provider of ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and insurance) services globally—is making notable strides in its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) application. The airline is gearing up to kick off its cargo operations by November 2025, with plans for passenger flights to follow shortly after.
In 2024, Ascend Airways Malaysia received a Conditional Air Service Permit (CASP) from the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM). As then, they have been collaborating closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to finalize their AOC. This process is nearing completion and aims for full operational capabilities by late 2025.
The airline will be headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and will provide both passenger and cargo services.Their first B737-800 freighter aircraft is expected to arrive in Q3 2025 as part of preparations for launching cargo operations and securing their full AOC. Following that, two additional B737-800 passenger planes are set to join their fleet by early 2026.
“our goal is to bolster local and regional airlines,” stated Germal Singh Khera, CEO of Ascend Airways Malaysia. “We aspire to be a reliable ACMI partner that enhances operational flexibility while meeting the growing demand for air travel in Asia-Pacific.”
Khera expressed gratitude towards various authorities including the Ministry of Transport and CAAM for their ongoing support which has been instrumental in establishing a solid operational framework aimed at assisting other air operators within the region.
The mission of ascend Airways Malaysia extends beyond just providing aircraft; they aim to offer essential wet leasing solutions across Malaysia and throughout Asia-Pacific. This approach enables airlines and logistics firms not only to expand during peak seasons but also helps them manage unexpected disruptions or extended maintenance periods effectively.
“We are dedicated to delivering adaptable ACMI solutions while developing our seasonal fleet strategy between regions like the UK and Asia-Pacific,” remarked Mr. Alastair Willson,CEO of Ascend Airways based in the UK—the sister company supporting this new venture. “ACMI leasing has proven beneficial for airlines looking to respond swiftly to fluctuating travel demands while exploring new revenue streams.”
