The Imperative of Integration in Today's Landscape

According to a recent publication by CMA CGM, the logistics landscape has dramatically evolved. Companies can no longer depend solely on traditional transport methods to meet the changing demands of customers and markets. Issues like port congestion, variable airfreight costs, and geopolitical tensions have highlighted a crucial reality: logistics providers must break down silos and embrace integration across air, sea, land, and digital platforms.

“To address our customers’ increasing need for flexible logistics solutions, we introduced CMA CGM AIR CARGO in March 2021,” shared Damien Mazaudier, CEO of CMA CGM Air Cargo. “This new division focuses on air freight services that complement our existing offerings. Our integrated strategy allows us to create customized multimodal solutions for clients—including last-mile delivery.”

A cohesive logistics network not only boosts efficiency but is essential for survival in today’s competitive market. Whether it’s using air cargo to mitigate maritime delays or connecting rail systems with global airports for inland distribution, success hinges on interconnectivity rather than the performance of individual components: “Understanding customer needs is vital; we are designing networks tailored to them. Agility is ingrained in our Group’s culture—we respond swiftly to market changes.”

The Multimodal Approach

As e-commerce grows and consumers demand faster service, air cargo stands out by offering unmatched speed combined with global reach. Though, this speed becomes truly effective when integrated into a larger ecosystem that facilitates smooth transitions throughout the supply chain.

Mazaudier emphasized that “CMA CGM AIR CARGO represents a pivotal move towards fulfilling our vision of providing extensive maritime, land-based, aerial transportation and logistical services.” Unlike many traditional carriers or those operating without assets, CMA CGM Air Cargo utilizes its parent company’s extensive shipping network for seamless end-to-end supply chain management.

the importance of air cargo is especially evident in critical industries such as pharmaceuticals or electronics where timely deliveries require not just rapid transport but also strict control over conditions from start to finish.Mazaudier pointed out that “to enhance management of high-value products effectively requires focusing on efficiency while ensuring safety compliance and customer satisfaction.”

This attention to detail reflects a broader shift from simple transactional freight operations toward precision-driven logistics strategies: “Automation and digitalization are essential… We’re leveraging IoT sensors alongside TMS technology for real-time monitoring,” he added.

The Importance of Integration

A unified logistics framework plays an integral role in achieving sustainability goals—especially within sectors like aviation facing scrutiny over their carbon footprints. For airfreight to contribute positively towards future supply chains sustainably it must align with optimized routing practices while minimizing redundancies across all modes of transport.

Mazaudier noted that as part of their environmental commitment “CMA CGM AIR CARGO is rolling out various digital initiatives aimed at operational efficiencies,” which include optimizing flight routes and reducing unnecessary fuel consumption.

“From joining CO2 Connect initiatives through fleet modernization efforts—we’re dedicated towards lowering our ecological impact,” he continued.....
