Russia has strongly criticised the United States over its blockade of Venezuela, accusing Washington of reviving acts similar to piracy and banditry in the Caribbean Sea.

Moscow warned that such actions could destabilise the region but expressed hope that US President Donald Trump’s pragmatic approach could help prevent a wider crisis.

According to Russia’s foreign ministry, the situation in the Caribbean has become increasingly lawless due to the US measures against Venezuela.

The ministry said actions such as blocking maritime activity resembled the seizure of property, a practice it described as outdated and dangerous under modern international law.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Russia consistently supports efforts to reduce tensions and avoid escalation.

She said Russia hopes the US leadership will take a rational approach and find solutions that are acceptable to all sides and comply with international law.
