India’s modern casual dining café, The Burger Company, has adopted a micro-quick service restaurant (QSR) franchise format, PICO.

With an investment starting from Rs789k ($8.9k), inclusive of taxes, and requiring a space of between 80ft² and 100ft², the format is aimed at reshaping the food entrepreneurship sector in the country by offering a low-cost entry point into the fast-growing QSR industry.

The model demands 60% to 80% less investment than traditional QSR setups.

The franchise package covers the franchise fee, billing system and software, all kitchen machinery, branding, fit-outs, initial marketing for the launch and training, along with the stock needed for opening day.

PICO offers a menu that has been refined using historical sales data, featuring the company’s vegetarian and chicken burgers, sandwiches, signature fries, beverages and momos [steamed filled dumplings].

This approach to stock-keeping unit optimisation cuts ingredient inventory by 40%, enhances cross-utilisation of ingredients and boosts revenue generation per square foot.

Franchisees can expect a quick return on investment, within 8 to 12 months.

PICO is tailored to suit a range of entrepreneurial profiles: first-time business owners seeking a low-risk venture, professionals looking for additional income, proprietors of small spaces in high-traffic areas, and existing cloud kitchen or kiosk operators who wish to leverage the strength of an established brand.

The Burger Company CEO and founder Neelam Singh was quoted by ETHospitalityWorld: “We recognised the immense potential of the PICO format and how it addresses what’s been holding back food entrepreneurship in India, namely the massive capital barrier.

“By adopting this innovative micro-QSR model, we’re able to put the power of our established, profitable burger business into the hands of every ambitious Indian, whether they’re a techie in Bangalore dreaming of their own venture or a small-town entrepreneur ready to bring good quality burgers to their community.”
