Unifeeder launches hybrid marine ambulance to deliver healthcare to remote island communities in Kerala

Unifeeder in collaboration with Kerala-based NGO Plan@Earth, has launched a hybrid Marine Ambulance and Dispensary to serve the island communities of Kadamakkudy Panchayath in the Vypin Constituency of Ernakulam District.

This innovative, community-focused initiative introduces a purpose-built medical boat that will provide outpatient consultations, emergency care, and essential medications to more than 17,000 residents across 14 remote islands with little to no road connectivity.

Operating six days a week, the boat will navigate the region’s waterways to deliver crucial healthcare services directly to these underserved populations.

Powered by a 40HP electric/solar hybrid engine, the vessel is equipped with a consultation room, laboratory, mobile pharmacy, and vital medical equipment including a defibrillator, suction unit, and oxygen supply.

A dedicated medical team comprising a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and attender will provide care according to a fixed weekly schedule for each island, supported by a dedicated helpline for coordination.
