Maldives progresses with Thilafushi Port Development Project

The state-owned Maldives Ports Limited is proceeding with the US$255 million Thilafushi Port Development Project on the (artificial) island of the same name, according to DynaLiners.

The port will be around 7-8 kilometres west of the capital island, Male, where the country’s main outlet, Male Commercial Port, is located.

The first phase of the Thilafushi development will see the construction of a 75-metre-long international quayline and a 650-metre domestic one, plus installation of a mobile harbour crane, which should be completed within a few months.

According to DynaLiners, the second phase will include a 275-metre international quay and a 2,300-metre domestic berth, as well as the development of a combined logistics and dry bulk facility.

The government has set aside 600,000 m² for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in the next year.
