T.S. Lines beefs up boxship orderbook with quartet in China

Hong Kong-listed T.S. Lines Limited has confirmed a $245.12m order for four container ships in China.

The liner player has entered into 2025 shipbuilding contracts with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited and CSTC on August 7 for four 5,300-teu container vessels.

The parties have agreed for the construction of four newbuilding vessels at an aggregate consideration of $245.12m and each at a consideration of $61.28m, the company said.

The vessels are expected to be delivered between June 2028 and December 2028, with the specific delivery date for each vessel to be determined in accordance with the respective 2025 shipbuilding contract.

The shipping company has made also a reference to the construction of two newbuilding vessels under the 2024 shipbuilding contracts.

T.S. Lines Limited expects two 5,300-teu container vessels (as amended from 4,300-teu each) to be constructed in accordance with the specifications set out in the amended shipbuilding contract.

The upgraded pair will be under the “substantially same terms” as the four 5,300-teu container vessels.

The cost is expected to be $62.78m for each vessel, amounting to an aggregate consideration of $125.56m for all two vessels.

The vessels are expected to be delivered in February 2028 and April 2028.

The T.S. Lines said in a filing that its directors believe that the construction of the vessels is in line with the group’s long-term development strategy and will bring significant benefits to the group and its shareholders.

The construction of a total of six container vessels will increase the group’s owned fleet size and total shipping capacity, the shipowner said, adding that the group will “better capture market opportunities” and respond to the growing demand in the container shipping industry, particularly in the Asia Pacific region and other key markets.

The company is an Asia Pacific region focused container shipping company. The group operates a container shipping network independently and also through arrangements with other carriers including joint services, slot exchange and slot chartering with particular emphasis on the Asia Pacific region.
