Swire Shipping revises Barge Fee currency in Papua New Guinea

Swire Shipping has announced a revision to the currency of its recently introduced Barge Fee for all ports served via domestic transshipment in Papua New Guinea. The fee, previously charged in Papua New Guinea Kina, will now be applied in US dollars.

The USD-based Barge Fee will take effect for bills of lading dated on or after 10 November 2025 and will be payable along with the ocean freight.

Export (BGO)

  • Scope: All ports via domestic transshipment

  • Currency: USD

  • 20’: $50 | 40’: $100

Import (BGD)

  • Scope: All ports via domestic transshipment

  • Currency: USD

  • 20’: $50 | 40’: $100

For lanes regulated by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), the effective date will be 5 December 2025.

This adjustment ensures consistency and efficiency in billing and payment processes across Swire Shipping’s network in Papua New Guinea.
