Kongsberg Maritime to equip Transpetro’s new tankers
Kongsberg Maritime will design and equip four methanol/ethanol-ready handy-size tankers for Transpetro. The vessels will be built by Consórcio Marenova in Rio Grande and Niterói, Brazil.
The NOK 300 million contract covers ship design and integrated systems. These include Promas propulsion, controllable pitch propellers, deck machinery, tank gauging, and advanced navigation and automation solutions such as K-Bridge, K-Chief, K-Gauge, and K-Load.
The 150.6-metre vessels will have a breadth of 23.4 metres, a draught of 8.2 metres, and a deadweight of about 15,600 dwt. They use the NVC 615 PT design from Kongsberg’s NVC family, known for efficiency and adaptability to future fuels.
“This project shows our shared focus on innovation and sustainability,” said MareNova representatives Robson Passos and Alexandre Kloh.
Ronny Pål Kvalsvik, VP of Ship Design at Kongsberg, said: “Our designs help shipowners meet operational and environmental goals. These vessels are ready for future fuels.”
Kongsberg Maritime has operated in Brazil since 2009. Its local workshops, labs, and training facilities support offshore and shipbuilding projects nationwide.
