Maersk announces Peak Season Surcharges on multiple routes

Maersk has announced several Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) across major trade lanes to maintain reliable global shipping services.

Far East Asia to East Africa

A revised PSS will apply to shipments from Far East Asia to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Kenya.

Effective: March 23, 2026 (March 24 for Vietnam origin).

Key rates include:

  • Up to USD 350 per 20’ container and USD 300 per 40’ container to Dar es Salaam from Southeast Asian origins.

  • USD 200 per 20’ container and USD 400 per 40’ container from China/Hong Kong to Dar es Salaam.

  • Up to USD 500 per 20’ container and USD 800 per 40’ container to Kenya.

North Europe to North America

Maersk will introduce a PSS of USD 500 per container for shipments from Northern and Central European countries to the United States and Canada.

Effective: April 8, 2026.

Europe to Mexico

A new surcharge will also apply to cargo moving from Europe, the Mediterranean, and parts of Central Asia to Mexico.

Effective: April 1, 2026.

Rates include:

  • USD 250 per 20’ container

  • USD 500 per 40’/45’ container

For shipments originating in Syria, the surcharge will be EUR 220 per 20’ container and EUR 435 per 40’/45’ container.

Far East Asia to Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands

Maersk will also implement a PSS for cargo from Far East Asia to destinations including Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, and other Southern African markets.

Effective: March 23, 2026 (March 24 for Vietnam origin).

Rates:

  • USD 1,000 per 20’ container

  • USD 2,000 per 40’ container

The surcharges apply to non-SPOT bookings and are calculated based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD). Maersk noted that additional local or contingency charges may apply depending on the shipment.
