According to a recent publication by HHLA, the company is set to acquire a 60% interest in the Eurobridge Intermodal Terminal located in Batiovo, which aims to become a key player in European rail freight logistics.
This terminal is strategically positioned near Chop, at the crossroads of major international railway routes connecting Ukraine wiht Hungary and slovakia. It features both standard (1,435 mm) and broad (1,520 mm) gauge tracks. Currently transitioning from handling bulk freight to managing container traffic, it has an aspiring target of processing up to 100,000 TEUs annually alongside grain and various general cargoes. If demand surges, there’s potential for further capacity expansion.
the operation will be run as a partnership between HHLA International and Fortior Capital from Ukraine under the banner of HHLA Eurobridge Batiovo. Philip Sweens, Managing Director at HHLA International remarked on this investment as a strong endorsement of ukraine’s logistical capabilities. He noted that extensive upgrades are underway—transforming what was once solely a bulk cargo facility into an intermodal hub for containers—with operations expected to kick off by late 2025. Additionally, they plan on broadening their service offerings.
