CAF Secures Major Contract for New Taipei Tram Development
According to a recent publication by CAF, the company has secured a framework contract to deliver up to 23 Urbos trams for the Xidong and Keelung line projects in New Taipei. This agreement, finalized in early June, also includes spare parts, depot equipment, and a driving simulator. If all options are exercised, the deal could be worth around €200 million.
These trams will feature nine sections made of aluminum and measure 55 meters in length. They are designed to accommodate up to 615 passengers while ensuring full accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility. CAF has committed to customizing these vehicles according to the local climate conditions.
The Malaysian engineering firm Gamuda is behind this framework order; they are collaborating with local partners MiTAC Information Technology Corp (holding a 15% stake) and Dong Pi (10%) on constructing the Xidong Line. The project is anticipated to wrap up by 2032.
The elevated Xidong Line will stretch approximately 5.6 kilometers from Donghu on the Wenhu Line all the way to Xizhi railway station, featuring six stations along with a depot for maintenance purposes.Additionally, there’s an option within this contract for equipping the future Keelung Line as part of this consortium’s efforts.
This initiative not only enhances public transportation but also reflects Taiwan’s commitment towards modernizing it’s infrastructure while considering environmental factors—somthing that many countries are striving for today!
