BNSF and CSX announce new intermodal services

BNSF and CSX have announced a series of new intermodal service products designed to provide more direct and efficient connections between western and eastern U.S. markets. The railroads said the new offerings aim to expand coast-to-coast capacity and shift freight from road to rail.

Among the additions is a new domestic intermodal service connecting Southern California with Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida. Another service will link Phoenix, Arizona, with Atlanta, Georgia, providing a seamless rail option intended to replace long-haul trucking on that corridor.

The companies also plan to introduce new international intermodal services linking the Port of New York and New Jersey, as well as Norfolk, Virginia, with Kansas City. In Arizona, two new 10,000-foot sidings between Phoenix and Flagstaff will support the growing market by improving efficiency for train meet-and-pass operations on BNSF’s Southern Transcon route.

“This collaboration between BNSF and CSX demonstrates the power of partnership, delivering greater flexibility, efficiency and value for our customers,” said Jon Gabriel, Group Vice President of Consumer Products at BNSF.

“Through this new connectivity, CSX and BNSF are connecting Western and Eastern U.S. markets, creating faster, more reliable service,” added Drew Johnson, Vice President of Intermodal Sales and Marketing at CSX.

The railroads noted that these new service products will provide customers with more options while strengthening integrated rail solutions for freight moving nationwide.
