MSC and SLPA renew terminal service agreement at Port of Colombo

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container line, has renewed its commitment to the Port of Colombo. MSC and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) signed a new Terminal Service Agreement to guide their cooperation in the coming years.

The agreement focuses on operational clarity, service efficiency, and capacity planning. It aims to support expected increases in cargo throughput. Both MSC and SLPA see the deal as a practical step to strengthen day-to-day coordination and enhance the port’s long-term performance.

Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Geneva, MSC has grown from a single-vessel operation into the world’s leading container shipping company. The line operates across all major trade routes and has played a central role in Colombo’s growth as a key regional transshipment hub. MSC consistently handles the highest container volumes at the port, leveraging its fleet scale and global network to support operational and commercial advancement.
