APM Terminals MedPort Tangier adds cranes to boost capacity

APM Terminals MedPort Tangier has strengthened its operational capabilities with the addition of four new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, increasing its total fleet from 20 to 24. The new cranes are set to enhance productivity at the berth and improve schedule reliability for shipping lines and customers, supporting smoother cargo handling as global trade volumes continue to grow.

This latest upgrade comes on the heels of the terminal’s 2 million TEU expansion earlier this year, which raised the facility’s annual handling capacity to 5 million TEUs. The combination of increased crane capacity and expanded throughput ensures that MedPort Tangier remains a key hub for container traffic in the region.

With these enhancements, the terminal aims to provide faster turnaround times, reduce vessel waiting periods, and accommodate larger vessels more efficiently. The investment underscores APM Terminals’ commitment to meeting customer demands while supporting trade growth across Africa, Europe, and beyond.

By integrating advanced equipment and operational improvements, MedPort Tangier continues to position itself as a reliable, high-capacity gateway for global shipping lines, contributing to the competitiveness of the broader supply chain.
