A Liberian-flagged tanker with 28 crew members on board was left adrift in the Aegean Sea on Sunday after suffering a total power blackout, according to information released by Greek authorities.

The vessel reportedly lost electrical power while sailing about 12.7 nautical miles southeast of the island of Skyros, leaving it unable to manoeuvre.

Following the incident, two vessels navigating in the vicinity were already present at the location and remained nearby to assist.

The Greek Coast Guard was notified of the situation and deployed four patrol vessels to the area to provide support and ensure maritime safety.

Authorities indicated that the response was precautionary and focused on safeguarding the crew and nearby shipping traffic.

Initial assessments suggested that weather conditions in the area were favourable at the time of the incident.

Winds were reported to be blowing at up to 3 on the Beaufort scale, which was not expected to hinder
