Kalmar to upgrade STS cranes at Wilhelmshaven
Kalmar has secured a contract to relocate and modify two ship-to-shore cranes for Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven.
The agreement covers two ZPMC STS cranes and forms part of Kalmar’s Modernisation Services portfolio. The order was booked in Kalmar’s fourth-quarter 2025 intake and aims to extend the operational life and capability of the terminal’s crane fleet.
The project includes the transport of the cranes using a heavy-lift semi-submersible barge, along with extensive mechanical and electrical modifications. Kalmar will manage the full scope of the work, from relocation through to commissioning and testing at the Wilhelmshaven terminal.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
Kalmar said the contract reflects its strategy to grow its services business and support customers across the full lifecycle of their equipment, regardless of the original manufacturer. The company will provide in-house engineering expertise for all upgrade-related activities.
Eurogate CTW said it selected Kalmar based on a long-standing working relationship and positive experience from previous crane heightening projects. The terminal cited Kalmar’s technical capabilities and ability to manage complex modifications.
Kalmar said the project demonstrates its engineering depth and experience in delivering large-scale crane relocation and upgrade projects for container terminals.
